Pro-Democratic groups know their presidential candidate has to win Pennsylvania next year to have any chance at winning the White House.
After all, no Democrat has won the White House without winning Pennsylvania since President Harry Truman in 1948. Trump won Pennsylvania by 44,000 votes in 2016, the first Republican presidential candidate to win the state since Vice President George H.W. Bush in 1988.
Two Dem political action committees are putting up lots of money to get out the vote, according to PoliticsPA.
For Our Future, which bills itself as “the super PAC devoted to grassroots Democratic turnout,” plans to spend $80 million to $90 million on seven specific states including Pennsylvania.
Priorities USA, another super PAC, plans a $100 million program focusing on Pennsylvania and three other states.
Not to be outdone, PolitcsPA reports today, two pro-President Donald Trump political action committees are helping him in the Keystone State.
Great America PAC and Committee to Defend the President want to register one million new voters for Trump leading up to the 2020 election.
The PACs plan on spending more than $1 million in phase one on local and national television ads in Pennsylvania and three other battleground states that voted Trump in 2016. The second phase adds five more battleground states and a national bus tour, Politics PA reports.
“President Trump won Pennsylvania by a narrow margin in 2016, so we are working hard to strengthen the foundation there to ensure he wins it again in 2020,” said Brent Lowder, Executive Director of Great America PAC.
