It’s amazing how different recruiting is now than it was 10 years ago, to the point where we’re seeing players commit two classes down the road.
That’s what happened this morning again, as Massachusetts tight end Pat Freiermuth committed to the Nittany Lions’ 2018 class.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder is a four-star recruit, as rated by Rivals.com. He joins fellow four-star recruits DE Micah Parsons and WR Justin Shorter and three-star OL Chris Bleich of Wyoming Valley West on the verbal commitment list for the ’18 class. Bleich is rated as a four-star by some services, too, so that’s a pretty good start to what is expected to be a huge class for Penn State.
Also, I didn’t get a chance to post this news over the last few days — obviously, work on the Big Ten preview this weekend is overtaking recruiting news a bit — but Penn State got a verbal commitment from 2017 receiver Mac Hippenhammer.
The 6-foot-0, 170-pounder from Fort Wayne, Ind., is a three-star prospect.

Here are some videos, first on Freiermuth, then Hippenhammer.
