Former state attorney-general and Waverly Township resident Kathleen Kane was sentenced to state prison yesterday, after being convicted during the summer on charges of perjury and of leaking secret state grand jury testimony. Her fall from political and legal grace — many had predicted the governorship for her when she came out of nowhere to become the state’s first woman and Democratic A-G — is, in most ways, the result of her own misdeeds. However, those misdeeds arose from the hardball politics, male-dominated culture and buddy-buddy relationships that dominate the state’s judiciary and law-enforcement systems. Kathleen Kane’s career is for all intents and purposes over. The system in which it ended sadly seems deathless.
