If you’re in the mood for a feel-good story about a local leader turning obstacles into opportunities, read staff writer Marty Myers‘ excellent story today on Tori Tansley, the 5-foot-7 senior who keeps coming up big for the Old Forge Lady Devils.
The team is headed to the PIAA high school girls’ basketball championship game largely on the strength of Tori’s 28 points and 12 rebounds in a comeback win over Portage in the state semifinals on Tuesday. The Lady Devils will face Vincentian Academy, the team that beat them in last year’s title game.
Tori also blocked six shots Tuesday, testament to her tenacity standing taller than the tape measure. If she was “just a little taller” Coach Ron Stacchiotti told Marty, she would be an even stronger force on the court. No Lady Devil has played bigger than Tori this post-season, and her team spirit, work ethic and resilience in the face of adversity is a lesson for elected officials who always seem to play down to low expectations.
Tori is living proof that leadership means holding yourself accountable until the last tick of the clock. #LDOE
