Okay, the regular season is just about fully completed.

Mid Valley and Riverside will finish things up on Thursday, but because neither team is involved in a playoff, the postseason must push forward.

Congratulations to Scranton Prep on winning the Lackawanna League championship and on having an undefeated record. The Classics are led by the No. 1 player in the district, Emily Jonsson. I will have my final singles rankings later in the post. They will also be the No. 1 seed for the District 2 Class AA playoffs that begin Thursday.

Here are my final rankings:

Now that the season is all but complete and the singles seeding meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at Dunmore High School, here are my final Lackawanna League singles rankings. I have listed the Top 8 players:

1. Emily Jonsson, Scranton Prep (15-0) — Class AA

  • Clearly she is the top player after completing an undefeated regular season. She should also be the No. 1 seed for the District 2 Class AA tournament, being that she is the defending champion.

2. Caroline Mattise, Abington Heights (13-1) — Class AAA

  • Had her only loss in regular season to Jonsson. Should earn her a high seed for the District 2-4 Class AAA subregional and it is looking like a top 4 contender.

3. Maansi Malhotra, Scranton Prep (13-0) — Class AA

  • I don’t usually like putting a player so high who plays at No. 2 singles, but Malhotra is a No. 1 on just about every team. She too should earn a top 4 seed for the district Class AA singles tournament and would pretty much be locked in at No. 3.
Dunmore's Nastashia DeNunzio.

Dunmore’s Nastashia DeNunzio.

4. Nastashia DeNunzio, Dunmore (9-2) — Class AA

  • Missed a couple of matches, but I won’t hold that against her. She is a fine player and could be as high as a No. 5 seed for District 2 Class AA tournament.

5. Sondra Lionetti, Abington Heights (13-1) — Class AAA

  • Again, played at No. 2 singles, but she is clearly a No. 1 on most teams. Should find herself among the seeded players for the Class AAA tournament.

6. Kathleen Fricke, Holy Cross (10-4) — Class AA

  • Had some quality wins while battling a medical condition. Her 10 wins could be enough to get a close look for the seeded players in districts.

7. Brigid Washburn, Wallenpaupack (10-4) — Class AAA

  • Had an interesting season with a couple of stumbles along the way. Last year, she reached the District 2-4 Class AAA quarterfinals.

8. Zoe Cykosky, Wallenpaupack (13-2) — Class AAA

  • Strong singles player at No. 2 and could also be a candidate to be seeded. If not, she is a player who could be a dark horse to make a run in the blind draw.
