I gazed outside my window and as hard as it was to believe, I saw rain.

Now there is no doubt that my crispy, brown grass was as desperate for water as a stranded tourist in the desert, but the high school tennis athletes did not want to see the precipitation finally arrive.

It will no doubt, bring the season that had been moving along so smoothly, to a screeching halt. Not to mention that Scranton and West Scranton are on hiatus during a teachers strike. And while most eyes are on whether or not football will be played, the tennis matches will have a direct impact on the postseason.

Here is what I think I know as the Lackawanna League has two officials dates (today and Monday) on the schedule and the Wyoming Valley Conference has one (today). Both leagues have teams that require makeup matches before the District 2 postseason is set to begin at the home court of the higher seeded team on OCTOBER 9. Semifinals and finals are scheduled for OCTOBER 13 at Kirby Park. CLASS AAA at 11 a.m. and CLASS AA at 12:30 p.m.
