Good morning.

OK, it’s Wednesday, and last year I reserved this day of the week to take a step back from the avalanche of football work to reflect on the outstanding action in Lackawanna League Tennis.

I apologize for getting off to a slow start, but there had been only one match date completed last week, so I figured now is as good a time as any to get rolling. Then, of course, I looked at the schedule and lo and behold one of the biggest matches of the year is on the slate for this afternoon.

Abington Heights will visit Wallenpaupack, today at 4:30 p.m.

  • It’s an important Class AAA matchup. On paper, this looks like a really good regular-season battle and could be a preview of coming attractions in District 2 Class AAA.
  • All three singles players are unbeaten in this early part of the season. Wallenpaupack’s Zoe Cykosky was a Lackawanna League Class AAA all-star singles player last season.
  • Abington Heights has won six straight District 2 Class AAA championships. Wallenpaupack is the last team other than the Lady Comets to win a D2 title in AAA with that coming in 2009 as part of four in a row for the Lady Buckhorns.

That leads me to the blog today. What I am going to do is have my Top 5 singles players list. A new feature as I rank the Top 5 teams. A look at the standings. And a look ahead.

What I will also do, is try to be more efficient. With football, I get bombarded with work, and I made a commitment to not have this job overwhelm me this fall. So, we will start today and I will likely get you another post tomorrow looking back at what is the most important match to this point of the season.

So, let’s start, so we can get some traffic to the blog from our tennis fans:
