The NFL released its list of more than 300 players who have been invited to the annual scouting combine in Indianapolis today, and five Penn State players are on the list.

They are:

  • QB Christian Hackenberg
  • DT Austin Johnson
  • SAF Jordan Lucas
  • DE Carl Nassib
  • DT Anthony Zettel

The combine starts on Feb. 26, but the Nittany Lions representatives won’t officially be involved until Hackenberg works out with the quarterbacks on Feb. 27. The three defensive linemen will all work out for NFL coaches, scouts and player development types on the 28th, with Lucas working out with the rest of the defensive backs on the 29th.

All in all, it’s a pretty good haul for the Nittany Lions to get five players at the combine. The argument could have been made that Kyle Carter deserved a shot based on his redshirt freshman season alone back in 2012, but he was not among the 15 tight ends invited. Same can be said for Angelo Mangiro, who I thought had a chance to get a look. But he’ll also be home.

Penn State’s senior players will all get another chance to work out for scouts before the draft at the program’s pro day.
