To the endorsements of Vladimir Putin, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and the Ku Klux Klan, GOP frontrunner Donald Trump can now add a thumbs-up from U.S. Rep. Tom “Casino” Marino.

The fifth member of Congress to endorse The Donald and the first from Pennsylvania, Mr. Marino allegedly represents the interests of citizens in the 10th Congressional District, which includes the northwestern part of Lackawanna County and all or parts of Bradford, Lycoming, Juniata, Mifflin, Monroe, Northumberland, Perry, Pike, Snyder, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Union and Wayne counties.

Super Tuesday is upon us, and Mr. Marino, ever the unimaginative opportunist, is betting the House on Trump. His seat protected by gerrymandering and self-defeating voters who don’t believe in effective government, Mr. Marino has nothing to lose in backing The Donald. Whatever disaster Trump might wreak on the GOP or the country, the congressman will almost certainly keep his job as long as he wants. In the unlikely event he is ousted, he can always go back to work for garbage/gambling magnate Louis DeNaples.

Mr. Marino’s explanation for the endorsement is what you’d expect from a politician almost as cynical and sophomoric as Trump.

“For the past 10 months, I have listened to political pundits and inside-the-beltway politicians say that Donald Trump is not a serious candidate, cannot win the Republican nomination and cannot win the presidency,” Mr. Marino said in a prepared statement. “However, Mr. Trump has defied the odds at every turn. It is time that we start listening to what the people want and that is a President Donald Trump. I am proud to give Mr. Trump my full endorsement and support today.”

Voters in a dozen states go to the polls today, and Republican Establishment efforts to curb his momentum have so far been too little, too late and too lame. Come morning, Tom Marino could look pretty smart, proving once again that no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people, and that there’s a first time for everything.
