Congratulations to Scranton Prep’s Emily Jonsson.

On Monday, facing a fellow All-Region performer in Brigid Washburn, Jonsson won her 50th singles match for the Classics, who remained undefeated with a hard-fought, 3-2, victory.

Scranton Prep got a singles win from Maansi Malhotra at No. 2, and at No. 1 doubles from Mira Patel-Tatiana Klacko. Wallenpaupck’s wins came from Irene Gendelman and the doubles team of Gina Nolan-Heidi Washburn.

This is a busy week for tennis with three league matches scheduled. There is going to be really good match Wednesday when Wallenpaupack (6-2) visits unbeaten North Pocono (8-0). North Pocono also has a crucial Class AA match against Valley View on Thursday.

Here are the singles rankings going into Wednesday’s schedule (They will be updated again next Tuesday)

1. Emily Jonsson, Scranton Prep    8-0

  • Won her 50th match and is headed for a showdown with Mattise. As the defending champion, Jonsson is likely going to be the No. 1 seed for District 2 Class AA tournament.

2. Caroline Mattise, Abington Heights   7-0

  • Remained undefeated with a win against Scranton.

3. Bridgid Washburn, Wallenpaupack   5-2

  • Lost in straight sets to Jonsson on Monday, 6-2, 6-1.

4. Nastashia DeNunzio, Dunmore   4-1

  • Only loss so far is to Jonsson. Had her match against Washburn halted.

5. Maansi Malhotra, Scranton Prep    7-0

  • Had an impressive win over Wallenpaupack’s Zoe Cykosky, 6-2, 6-1.
