Hello, everyone!

I am sick as a dog. Fever topped out at 102 yesterday. And since I am in quarantine, I figured I would do some work.

I know we are in for an arctic blast of weather and the winter sports season has yet to conclude, but track and field season is right around the corner. The first regular-season date for meets is March 29 and that my friends is a mere three weeks away.

What I will do today and tomorrow, is give you a quick look at who some of the top stars returning in the Lackawanna Track Conference. Today, we will start with the girls LTC where this promises to be one of the best seasons.

One of the main reasons is the return of last season’s Times-Tribune Performer of the Year, Katie Dammer of Abington Heights. There are also 11 other members of the All-Region team who are coming back this season, including Lakeland’s Brooke Estadt and Maddy Harding, who are both three-time selections and are already committed to NCAA Division I programs. Estadt is going to Cornell and Harding is going to Lehigh University.

Here are the final 2016 LTC standings:

2016 Standings

Here is what the final Top 10 poll looked like:

1. Abington Heights (7-0). How easy is this? Winners of 63 straight dual meet.

2. Lakeland (7-0). Maybe doesn’t have the depth overall, but very solid top talent.

3. Wallenpaupack (7-0). Is a really deep team that will be heard from in postseason.

4. Elk Lake (7-0). Went undefeated and had a crossover win over Dunmore.

5. Western Wayne (5-2). Losses were to Abington Heights and Wallenpaupack.

Others: Holy Cross (5-2), North Pocono (5-2), Dunmore (4-3).

Here is a look at who is coming back in every event based on results from the Robert Spagna Championships from last spring with current grade listed:

That is all for today.

Tomorrow, I will give you a look at the LTC boys returning stars. Remember, this is based on those who were underclassmen last season.

There could be injuries, or athletes choose not to come out for their team this season. But, these are the kids who made an impact last season.

ENJOY!
