The winter weather just doesn’t want to allow the spring sports seasons to get going full steam ahead.

Last week, 11 of the scheduled 21 Lackawanna League matches were played. Mike Ognosky, who tracks the results and rescheduled dates for the league matches will be going out of his mind trying to play catch up. And athletic directors, well, they will be burning the midnight oil trying to keep the season on track to be completed by April 30.

So, when Monday’s snow fall caused two matches which were already rescheduled from last week, it created quite a logjam. There are 12 scheduled play dates remaining in the next 25 days.

That’s going to make this a frantic regular season for tennis players.

The season will try to resume Tuesday with a full slate of matches. One of the more intriguing has Holy Cross at Western Wayne in a battle of two District 2 Class 2A playoff teams from last season. Also, the Delaware Valley at Scranton Prep match could get interesting, as well.

And how about the Dunmore Bucks?

After a hard-fought 3-2 win over West Scranton and a 5-0 win over Wallenpaupack, the Bucks are 2-0 and equaled their win total of the last two seasons combined.

RANKINGS

With only a few matches having been played, now is as good a time as any to post the first Top 5 team and singles player rankings.

Abington Heights pushed its league winning streak to 113 straight. Scranton Prep did have a scare in its opening match.

The top boys players will be headlined by Tomas Reese, an All-Region player who won a 6-1, 6-3 match against another All-Region player from last season, Timmy Christman from Abington Heights.
