“Trailer Talk” rounds up recently released trailers for upcoming and anticipated movies.
Chris Hemsworth’s God of Thunder returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a beauty of a trailer. The teaser set a record as the most watched trailer ever from Marvel and Disney, with a staggering 136 million views in 24 hours.
Bursting with color and the rock ‘n’ roll strains of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song,” the “Thor: Ragnarok” trailer is a huge departure from the previous two Thor movies. Its look and style are very reminiscent of “Guardians of the Galaxy.” But director Taika Waititi, who helmed the vampire parody “What We Do in the Shadows,” brings his sense of humor to the franchise. This trailer is a lot of fun!
“Thor: Ragnarok” combines elements from the end-of-the-world Ragnarok storyline and Planet Hulk storyline from the comics. Trying to save his home world of Asgard from the evil Hela (an amazing looking Cate Blanchett), a Mjolnir-less Thor must fight his “friend from work,” the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), in a cosmic gladiator match. The God of Thunder models a new look and new weapons.
Joining Blanchett as newcomers to the franchise are Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster. And everyone’s favorite baddie Tom Hiddleston returns as the mischievous Loki.
“Thor: Ragnarok” smashes into theaters Nov. 3.
“Transformers: The Last Knight”
Of the recent trailers for the fifth film in the “Transformers” franchise, this one actually looks pretty good. Released today, the teaser is coherent and gives the best idea as to the film’s plot and storyline. I’ve had a really hard time gleaning just what this film was supposed to be about from the other trailers.
In the latest entry of the Michael Bay-directed franchise, humans and Transformers are at war in a post-apocalyptic landscape. Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots, is seeking redemption for killing his home planet. But in the process, he has turned to the dark side and against Earth. Any hope for survival lies with a small band of humans and the secret past of the Transformers on Earth, which as some cool scenes show us, dates back to medieval times.
“Transformers: The Last Knight” brings back Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yeager from “Transformers: Extinction,” as well as Josh Duhamel from the first three films. The esteemed Anthony Hopkins joins the cast. But the breakout star could be young Isabela Moner, the focus of the film’s previous trailer.
“Transformers: The Last Knight” charges into theaters June 23.
One month after its restricted trailer was released, a new teaser for the Charlize Theron action film “Atomic Blonde” has hit the internet.
Based on the graphic novel “The Coldest City,” the espionage thriller follows an MI-6 spy (Theron) as she aims to take down a merciless spy ring during the 1980S Cold War.
After playing iconic action heroine Imperator Furiosa in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Theron looks right at home in the blistering actioner. The film features plenty of gun-play and hand-to-hand combat. The movie looks like a female take on the popular action flick “John Wick,” with its practical action and blue hues. This isn’t a coincidence, as the film is directed by David Leitch, who co-directed “John Wick.”
The film also stars John Goodman, Toby Jones and James McAvoy.
“Atomic Blonde” infiltrates theaters July 28.
