Thirty-seven senior Girl Scouts left Scranton to attend a gathering of Girl Scouts in Colorado Springs, Colorado on June 30, 1959. This gathering was called the Roundup.
The young ladies along with scouting leaders were honored with a farewell ceremony at the Lackawanna Station before they left. Scranton Mayor James Hanlon and Scranton Chamber of Commerce President John Barrett both offered remarks during the ceremony.
Gail Piazza, a scout from Clarks Summit, served as a correspondent for the Times while the young ladies where at the Roundup. She sent back articles detailing events and photographs.
