Charles Manson died yesterday evening at the Kern County Hospital in California. He was 83.  Manson has been in prison since he and several of followers were convicted of murder in January 1971.

The murders by followers of Manson took place on  August 9 and 10, 1969. The victims on August 9th where actress Sharon Tate and her unborn child, Jay Sebring, Voytek Frykowski, Abigail Folger and Steven Parent. The were all killed at the home of Tate and her director husband, Roman Polanski in Los Angeles.

The members would strike again the following evening on Aug 10 at the home of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca in Los Feliz section of Los Angeles.

Manson and his members would later be arrested in October 1969. The trial would begin on June 15, 1970 and continue until January 25, 1971 when Manson and three of his followers – Patricia Krewinkel, Leslie Von Houten and Susan Atkins would be found guilty. Later the jury recommended the death penalty for the four.  In February 1972, the death sentences would be commuted to life.
