Donald Trump shot himself in the foot again today. As usual, his mouth was the weapon of choice.

In a meeting with the nation’s governors, President Trump — who used five deferments for “bone spurs” to dodge service in Vietnam — actually said today that he would have been a bullet-riddled hero if present at the Valentine’s Day massacre Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

“You don’t know until you test it, but I think, I really believe I would have run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon,” the president said.

And done what? Smother the shooter under his presidential gut? Cajole him with empty promises? Deport him in mid-rampage?

I have never taken Donald Trump seriously. He rarely means anything he says. If he meant what he said today — that he believes he would have rushed unarmed into a gunfight — he is even dumber than I thought. Until today, that didn’t seem possible.

And if he made this ridiculous statement to stroke his ego or score political points, Trump is even deader inside than anyone guessed.
