Turns out Jussie Smollett is a victim. He is also a victimizer, of himself and every honest victim of racial and sexual bigotry and violence.

In a bizarre attempt to increase his astronomical salary, the “Empire” actor staged an assault on himself. Smollett, who is black and gay, falsely claimed that a pair of white supremacist thugs wearing “Make America Great Again” hats attacked him on a Chicago street at around 2 a.m. on Jan. 29. He said the thugs shouted racist and homophobic slurs, put a rope around his neck and poured bleach on him.

It was all a lie, as evidenced by Smollett’s Wednesday surrender to Chicago police on a charge of filing a false police report. The latest is that Smollett sent himself a threatening letter a week before the phony assault, which he paid two Nigerian brothers $3,500 to stage. My inbox is full of ,memes noting that Smollett may be the first American to scam a pair of Nigerians.

Smollett was reportedly unhappy being paid $65,000 per episode of “Empire,” which produces 18 episodes a season. If he appeared in only half of those episodes, his take would be $585,000. I could live comfortably for years on that kind of coin. Smollett’s greed will likely bankrupt his career. He is damaged goods. His wounds are self-inflicted.

That, Jussie, is what some of us call Justice.
