Lackawanna County Commissioner Laureen Cummings is NOT my friend. This should should surprise no one, considering she is a tea party Republican and I live in a world ruled by Objective Reality.

Cummings’ Facebook page, Laureen A. Cummings, demonstrates her fierce independence from anything resembling Empirical Fact. Over the weekend, she shared a New York Times story bearing the headline: Facebook and Google Struggle to Squelch ‘Crisis Actor’ Posts.

“Title should read ‘ Facebook and Google Struggle to CENSOR ‘Crisis Actor’ Posts…..just sayin,” Cummings wrote.

For the blissfully uninitiated, “crisis actors” are one of the dumber, meaner inventions of the unhinged right. The 20 elementary students and seven adults slaughtered at Sandy Hook aren’t dead. The Newtown Massacre was a “hoax,” a “false flag attack” meant to demonize gun owners and disarm law-abiding Americans.

Vocal students who survived the Valentine’s Day Massacre of 17 students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, are the latest victims to be slandered as crisis actors.

I included an aside to Cummings’ Facebook page in my Sunday column. Like a typical tea party snowflake, Laureen read the column as all about her:

“I just posted this about 3 hours ago. And within that short window of time, STT opinion columnist Chris Kelly , who I am NOT friends with, already wrote an ‘article’ about it,” she wrote.

“Since he or someone he knows likes to troll my personal page here is an FYI for you CK, This post is about CENSORSHIP…you know the very thing you just wrote umpteen “articles” blaming me for …..Hypocrite much?”

Um, no. Laureen Cummings is a public official whose private Facebook page is visible to anyone on Facebook. If she doesn’t want the public seeing the nasty things she posts on it, she should change the settings. Cummings never liked the scrutiny that comes with a tax-funded paycheck, and always casts herself as the victim when called out on her own words and actions.

When it comes to crisis actors, nobody chews scenery quite like Laureen Cummings.
