Just sat through state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale‘s press conference on his latest incendiary audit of the Scranton School District. He started out by saying, “The news is not good,” before moving on to call his findings “significantly disturbing” and urging district officials to “get their heads out of their asses.”
I’ve been in this business for a long time. I have never seen such a brutal rebuke delivered by an elected official to other elected officials. DePasquale had the evidence to back it up. It’s no secret the Scranton School District is teetering on financial oblivion, but to see the road map district officials followed to get to this dark place is stunning.
Read Times-Tribune Education Reporter Sarah Hofius Hall‘s breaking story here, and check back for her in-depth coverage later. I’ll chime in on Sunday, after I process the enormity and implications of the audit’s revelations.
This is gonna take a while.
