Former Scranton Bishop James Timlin’s appearance at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has made life even tougher for the embattled Scranton Diocese. Despite damning allegations made by a Pennsylvania investigative grand jury regarding decades of coverups of pedophile priests — as well as being asked specifically by Scranton Bishop Joseph Bambera to stay away from the conference — Timlin’s presence suggests the church and diocese aren’t entirely serious about addressing the scandal.
