Trump’s reality-teevee presidency was in full flower this week. The rollicking and frankly surreal bipartisan gun-control gab fest he hosted at the White House left Democrats like Sen. Diane Feinstein literally bouncing in their seats with glee and left Republicans like Pennsylvania’s Pat Toomey staring in slack-jawed bewilderment. Trump stole the show (as is his wont) by casually suggesting that the constitutional requirement for due process could be ignored with regard to gun seizures, a suggestion which Toomey said “did take my breath away a little bit.”
Welcome to the club, senator. Trump’s racist, authoritarian, ad-hoc and generally uninformed approach to his job has left millions of us breathless since January 2017.
