Team you follow: University of Connecticut women’s basketball
Game day superstitions or rituals? Me and my teammate Erin Worzel, we just jam out on the bus. It’s different every day. Some days it’s country, other days it’s hip-hop. It all depends on the mood.
As a country fan myself, I have to ask who your favorite artist would be? We like Luke Bryan. Everybody loves Luke Bryan. And we like Brett Young.
Three people you’d like to have dinner with? UConn women’s coach Geno Auriemma, Steph Curry and Miley Cyrus.
Are you doing more conditioning than in years past? Not so much sprints, but more drills that require running. That’s definitely getting us more in shape. We have only six girls that we play with so we have to push ourselves in practice to gain that stamina.
Best lesson you’ve learned through sports? Teamwork. You always have to work well, whoever you are playing with because if you and your teammates are not in this together, you are not going to be successful. It’s definitely a team game and you need all five players to be on the same page.
Biggest improvement you’ve seen in a player on your team since last season. Definitely Tabitha Boyd. She’s really stepped it up. She’s always getting rebounds and putting it back up on the board and that’s really big for us. We need that a lot and she knows how to clean it up.
Do you look at the scoreboard during the game? At halftime I did and I knew we were up a lot (33-14). Coach told us it was going to get a lot closer and we needed to keep our composure.
What are your goals for this year? I have really high expectations for our team this year because I know how good we play together. We all know our roles. Liv (Gregory) is amazing on defense. Tell her who to guard and she’ll stop them, Erin (Worzel) and Tabitha (Boyd) are working really hard underneath, and Rachael (Tirjan), Hannah (Smith) and I can all shoot lights out. It just depends on the game.
One player from another team you’d like to have as a teammate. Probably (Dunmore’s) Victoria Toomey. She’s a strong player who really knows the game, and we definitely need her height on our team.
