Good Friday and Opening Night of high school football!

My alarm went off at 6:30 a.m. and I brewed my coffee and started getting mentally ready for the day. Actually, I read the paper on the front porch, like I do every day in the summer! Why? Because I love reading the newspaper. Today is different in a lot of ways. First it’s the start of the high school season and the debut of the weekly insert GAMEFACE for this year. I can’t thank Conor Foley and Jason Farmer, our staff photographer, enough. It looks great. I received a lot of messages early on my feature story on the Rebar family. For me folks, football is about family and great stories. So when I get one, I try to do it justice. I am no award-winning writer, but I try to tell a good story. Mid Valley coach Dave Rebar sent me a little note, it was emotional, and reminded me again why I do this job 7 days a week. Make sure you all get a copy and please read the stories and previews. It really is all you need to know for the weekend’s games. Plus, and always remember, I have kids who are getting ready for school. … Supplies don’t come cheap!

Then, I traveled to PNC Field for a Press Conference. The organization announced a full schedule of activities along with the announcement of a second high school football game that will be hosted at the facility before the turf is ripped up and replaced for the 2018 baseball season. We had the news for you earlier this summer that Valley View will be playing West Scranton on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. The 4th annual RailRiders Bowl is scheduled for Oct. 14th at 7 p.m. But there is a lot more to the two-week stretch. There will be freshman, JV, junior football and even flag football games added to the schedule.
