This is Week 11 of the high school football season.

Time is short this week with championship volleyball tonight, so we will jump right in. When the PIAA expanded to six classifications, one goal was to have more teams qualify for the postseason. It’s hard to say why? But there is something that suggests simply saying a team qualified for the playoffs is important. The message was clear, football players are asked to make great sacrifice and must dedicate a great deal of time and effort into the sport. Having a reward at the end of the season makes coaching and fulfilling those physical and mental demands a bit easier. However, I am sure with the merging of Meyers, GAR and Coughlin into Wilkes-Barre Area, District 2 may seek to reduce the number of qualifying teams for its postseason. It’s just a thought.

Looks like the haves will soon be getting renforcements. Three of the four varsity football champions in the Lackawanna Football Conference won division titles in freshman football this season. Valley View has now won three freshman football championships in a row.

Congratulations, players and coaches.
