Hello from Washington, D.C.!

I am in a wonderful hotel in the nation’s capital and it is hot, hot, hot. Had a very nice visit and tour of American University with my daughter, Meghan. Then I saw the cost! YIKES! Today was only a first visit. She liked the school and really was a go-getter. She ran right to the front of the line to speak with representatives from the Biology department.

Now about the traffic in the real world. Folks, I don;t ever want to hear anyone complain about the traffic in Scranton. We approached the first of three circles on Massachusetts Avenue and I felt like Clark Griswold in London, unable to get left! I would love to meet the engineers who thought up these “efficient” ways of mainstreaming traffic through a busy city. Look, these are fine for those who routinely drive them, but for us folks who normally commute in the serene setting of Scott Township, it’s a horror show. But, I navigated through — and by the way Ms. GPS, telling me to turn onto 14th street after I have already passed the intersection does my no good!

Any way, after an abrupt U turn to the valet parking in front of the hotel, we have arrived safely and I am back at work previewing the 83rd Scranton Lions Club Dream Game.

Today, we had a player profile on Lackawanna Trail’s Tyler Baltrusaitis, who I think is one of the real tenacious players in the game. He is a tough kid, who plays a physical style, even though he is only 5-6, 130 pounds. This kid can play and he will have an impact for the City all-stars.

OK, the big news out of the Dream Game is the announcement of the official numerical rosters. Co-chairperson William Dempsey got these to me early this morning.

Again, players still have practice today and Saturday, and brunch on Sunday at the Regal Room. Then, there will be a pair of walk-through practices Monday and Tuesday. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Wednesday at John Henzes/Veterans Memorial Stadium.
