The Old Forge senior ran for 209 yards and three touchdowns in Friday’s 32-20 win over Lackawanna Trail.
Other sport you play: Baseball
Athletes you admire: Bo Jackson, J.J. Watt, Mike Trout and Ray Lewis.
Sports teams you follow? I’m a big Penn State fan, Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies, but I really just like to watch Mike Trout.
Any pregame rituals or superstitions? There have been like Buddha statues passed down, so we all rub their belly before the game. We have two of them.
Three people you’d like to have dinner with. Bo Jackson, Tom Brady and J.J. Watt.
Bo Jackson and J.J. Watt came up twice during the interview. Bo Jackson only because of his pure strength. If I could pick out anybody in the past that I could run like, it would be him. Plus he played baseball, too, and was really good at both. He was a really good athlete. A freak athlete. And J.J. Watt, purely because of his work ethic. You can’t not like J.J. Watt.
You have almost 1,200 yards in seven games, and 17 rushing TDs. I’m not really focused on that. You’re not really thinking about that. I play both sides of the ball so I have a lot to focus on. I just try to run as hard as I can for as long as I can. I try to stay in there and fight through it if I’m injured or gassed, because they need me back there.
Most influential person in your sports career? My dad. He was my football coach, my baseball coach. My whole life, he’s been motivating me. I think I get my work ethic from him.
Coolest thing that’s happened to you in your varsity career. Probably that pick-6 versus Wellsboro in my sophomore year to seal the win. That was special. I’ll never forget that.
What’s a typical practice like? We have a really good time at practice. We like to keep the atmosphere a little loose. We laugh a lot. We bust each other a lot, but when it’s serious, it’s serious. When it’s time to turn it on, there’s a line to be drawn.
What are your thoughts on the rest of the season? The plan is to get to the state championship. That’s obviously the ultimate goal. Each game is just another step forward to our goal. We try to work as hard every day as we can.
Biggest improvement in one teammate from last year to this year. I’d probably say Anthony Rios. He’s matured a lot.
One athlete on another team you’d like to have as a teammate. Dunmore’s Nick Shoemaker. He’s pretty dominant from what I’ve seen on film. He’s a strong guy, I like the way he carries himself on the field and he’s very explosive.
What are your plans after high school? I’m not sure if I want to play baseball or football in college. I’m extremely interested in Marywood University for baseball, and I’ve been talking to a few schools for football. But I haven’t really committed to anything.
