What a shock. … There are playoff games needed to determine first-half titles in the Lackawanna League Division III and Division IV.

Playoff games, mind you, where there are no championships awarded.

Nevertheless, these games do carry weight. The winners secure the title of being the winners of the first half titles. … Got that. With wins it guarantees the teams no worse than a playoff game for the actual Lackawanna League Division championships, should they stumble in the second half. And that is a possibility, because every team in those divisions hits the delete button and starts fresh at 0-0 in the second half.

Extra games for the best teams in the league. Outstanding.

Any way, what is even less of a shock is that Mid Valley and Holy Cross will be duking it out in one of the two games of the doubleheader at Carbondale Area High School.

The other game, which will tip things off at 2 p.m., will pit Susquehanna County rivals Montrose and Susquehanna against each other for the Division IV first-half title.

But, we will start where the day of action will finish.
